  • Easy and Short Trek in Nepal
  • Most Popular Short Trek in Nepal
  • Splendid view of Annapurna, Dhalagiri, And Manaslu Range
  • Magar And Gurung Mixed Ethnicity
  • Walking Through the delightful Rhododendron Forest

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek also sometimes referred as the Annapurna Panorama Trek can be said to be a mini version of the classic Annapurna Trek as we do not proceed further towards the base camp but rather  return back in bliss after witnessing the glory and beauty of the sunrise and the mountains from the viewpoint I.e, Poonhill. Some of the trekkers consider this short trek as the best trek ever as they get to wander in the trials of one of the best trekking destinations in all of Earth. Also, the trek is relatively short and smooth which does not limit the spirit of travelers.

As a result, thousands of people all over the planet flock towards Nepal to achieve this feat even though they just have a week off from work and even if they have celebrated their sixtieth birthday recently only. Mountains like Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Annapurna II, III, and IV, Dhaulagiri, Lamjung Himal, Gangapurna, and Manaslu are obviously the highlights of the trek but the humble culture, unique ethnicity, resilient lifestyle and the gorgeous nature are all set to bedazzle you as well.

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is one of the most popular in the Annapurna region. It offers a perfect trekking program for those who visit Nepal for the first time. From Poon hill , a view point located at 3,200 m, one can enjoy the best sunrise/sunset views and Himalayan sceneries. That includes Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167 m), Mt. Annapurna I ( 8091m), Mt. Fishtail (6998 m), Mt. Niligiri (7041 m), Mt. Annapurna South (7219 m), Annapurna II (7939 m), Annapurna III (7555m), Annapurna IV (7525 m), Lamjung Himal (6986 m) and many more peaks.

In addition, one can also experience unique culture and tradition of Magar and Gurung ethnic people of Nepal. While trekking through rhododendron forests, one can enjoy blooming of rhododendron flowers and spot various species of endangered animals ,birds and butter flies. Poon hill trek is considered as easy trekking route and very famous for beautiful and very close looks of Himalayan mountains range. The Ghorepani Poon hill trek follows the itinerary of Nayapul- Ulleri-Ghorepani Poon hill– Tadapani- Ghandruk and Nayapul Pokhara. This trek is very good choice for those who want to take an easy, short and lower altitude hike. So, there is the least chance of having altitude sickness.

Along the route to Poon hill local tea houses are available which offer rooms with attached bathroom and in some cases trekkers have to share bathrooms and toilets. The teahouse provides running hot water heated with solar power so we can take a shower almost every day. For communication there is internet facility available in Ghorepani and in Ghandruk village. On the way back home we follow the trail of Annapurna Base Camp.

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek Difficulty

Trekking in Nepal has evolved a lot in the last two decades as people from various nationalities have visited the spiritual land and with them comes the proper knowledge and equipment to truly provide the trekkers with their necessities. Poon Hill is considered an easy trek primarily because of the length of the trek which will be 3-5 days only and secondly because of the altitude which will be no more than 3100 meters which drastically diminishes the possibility of Acute Mountain Sickness. These two factors mainly decide the toughness of any trek and in this particular case, we are all set to go.

Ghorepani Weather and Best Time for Poon Hill Trek

The rule of thumb for trekking suggests not to trek when it is snowy and when it is raining. Trekking in such conditions not only can halt the trek but can make us miss on the mountains which seem to be staring right at us. So, September- November and March-May can be considered the right time to trek through these hills and mountains as there is not much rain and no snow as well. The over-all temperature is moderate and the mornings and evenings are chill which is all we want in a perfect trek day, isn’t it?

Annapurna Viewpoint Route

There are multiple routes to this particular trek and depending on the availability of time and fitness proficiency, trekkers choose different trials. For instance, a person who wants to do the trek in 3 days might choose to skip a few places and directly head towards Ghorepani and Poonhill and return back the same day which is technically the third day in that trek. Similarly, somebody who wants to do a 5 day poonhill trek might take it slow and walk less every day and also might get to visit a few extra places like Tadapani and Ghandruk.

Cost for Poon Hill Ghorepani Trek

The cost of the trek depends entirely upon the kind o traveler you are. If you are a solo traveler and don’t want a guide or a porter, it is going to be relatively cheap. Accommodation is super cheap in the tea-houses and lodges but the food can be a bit expensive because of less available resources in the mountains. For a solo adventurer, 25$-30$ a day might be just fine but for a group with a couple of friends and family, that might go a little high since guides and porters might be needed. Camping options are also possible for large groups through companies like us, Exciting Himalaya Pvt. Ltd. Last but not the least, 2 permits namely TIMS(Trekkers Information Management System) and ACAP(Annapurna Conservation Area Entry Permit) are strictly needed for the trek.
